20 Aug Historic Commemorative Booklet
To commemorate the Old England’s 170th birthday, a historic booklet has now been published, recording significant milestones of the hotel’s rich history, with a foreword by Professor Geoffrey Blainey AC, one of Australia’s most significant and popular historian and academic. The booklet also includes many historical images of the area and the hotel and would be of interest to anyone with a connection to the Old England, Heidelberg and the surrounding region. It is now available for sale at the hotel and makes a perfect gift for any occasion.
“The Old England Hotel is one of the oldest in Victoria. Few other hotels in Australia have adapted themselves so readily to changes in their neighbourhood and in society as a whole and to new drinking and dining tastes … it began life as an isolated roadside hotel which served the farmers and orchardists and woodcutters who lived in the flood-prone Yarra Valley … ” Extract from the Foreword by Professor Blainey
